Workshop on news reporting held
DIPHU, Aug 26: With the initiative of Munsin, a one-day workshop on news reporting was organised by The Drongo Express, to celebrate its 10th anniversary at Jirsong Asong, Rongkhelan here on Monday. A book ‘Unheard Voices’ Volume II, by The Drongo Express containing collection of 50 interviews of individuals from across the district was also launched by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council EM Surjya Rongphar at his residence to mark the event.
The celebration event of the TDE was began with the book launch at 8 am by the KAAC Art and Culture EM Surjya Rongphar along with the media house team comprising of Editor Helvellyn Timungpi, Executive Editor Watson Hanse, Associate Editor Welsing Hanse, staff member Dhananjoy Rongpi among others.
This was followed by workshop on news reporting for its correspondents from across Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong district. The workshop began with self-introduction of TDE team members led by Associate Editor Welsing Hanse. TDE Manager Reuben narrated the start of the local media houses, including transition, challenges and present status.
The workshop formally began with short photography session by TDE-EE Watson Hanse stressing on framing, moments, timings and on maintaining discipline while taking pictures with ease and without distraction.
The main news reporting session was led by Editor Helvellyn Timungpi where she covered five W’s and one H, and reverse pyramid formula among others. She also covered ethics and principles during news coverage while maintaining complete neutrality and integrity of the reporting.
Later, a small celebration event was held in the afternoon which was attended by leading personalities of the print media fraternity comprising of Thekar Arnivang founder and former Editor Longsing Teron, The Arleng Daily proprietor Jennifer Teronpi, Solando Editor and Diphu Press Club president Borsing Rongphar, District Press Club of Karbi Anglong (DCPKA) president Diganta Teron, Thekar EE and DPCKA Working President Danielson Bey, Heritage Learning Program Founder Sabin Rongpipi, KAT news scribe Stephan Teron, HLP alumi and members among others.
During the short celebration event, Thekar Arnivang for editor and leading personality Longsing Teron congratulated TDE and team members on completing a decade of its service to the society. He reminded that running print newspaper is a massive challenge at the time when reading has declined. He however called upon the importance of reading books, writing, improve skills, assert its rights, consistency and do research for building trust and knowledge.
Solangdo Editor Borsing Rongphar also congratulated TDE for their resolution and commitment to keep alive the media house. He also shared history of print media and claimed that it will survive and asserted news and events recorded becomes part of history which the future generation would look for.
DPCKA also congratulated TDE for covering 10 years and stated that the print media have huge task towards the society and expressed best wishes towards all of its future efforts.
Early in her short speech, The Arleng Daily proprietor Jennifer Teronpi congratulated TDE team for their teamwork, dedication, endurance and commitment towards the society and its print fraternity. HLP Founder also conveyed her happiness on the one-decade journey of the TDE and expressed hope to explore and collaborate on journalism with her NGO.
