BIRSINGKI, May 17: United khasi People’s Organisation of Karbi Anglong District Central committee visited Khanduli to meet the village Headman to ensure peace in the region. The team appealed to both communities (Karbi and Khasi Pnar) to maintain peace and avoid any form of conflict within the region.
To resolve the conflicts between Karbi-Pnar ethnic groups in Khanduli region, Government bodies of both states and various social and student organizations engaged vigilantly on the matter.
The concerned locals also told TDE that with the beginning of the monsoon season, people will have to move out to the fields for cultivation. Therefore, the intervention of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council in making an effort to restore peace is very important for the interest of both communities.
It can be mentioned that in the most critical hours, the Karbi Students’ Association along with several social organisations are also working restlessly to ensure peace and tranquility at Khanduli. Likewise, the diplomatic talks of the Chief Executive Member level from Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council to ensure harmony at the region. Upon the appeal put forward by UKPO, Khanduli village Headman Rangbah Shnong Yooshida Nongspung agreed to abide by the law and order and gave his words for his cooperation to bring back peace as early as possible.
As per the direction of UKPO Advisers, Pius Sten and Niwel War, the delegation of the United Khasi People’s Organisation Central committee was led by its President Pynshngainlang Rattane, members of UKPO Vincent Sten, Sacharias Khriam, Lidya Mukhdoh, Lucia Sten, Khasi Students’ Union, Karbi Anglong District president Mardius Saring, Khanduli Village Headman Committee Chairman, secretary and members of the committee attended the peaceful discussion at Khanduli.
