DIPHU, May 15: The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) said that they are strongly against the give-and-take policy between Assam & Meghalaya. This was stated during a peace demonstration by the Diphu Regional Committee on the current border issues.
KSA vehemently condemned the repeated intrusion of people from Meghalaya and causing trouble in West Karbi Anglong. They said that the silence of the Assam Police and the district administration had given the advantage to the miscreants from Meghalaya to come to Assam and create disturbances by threatening people, burning houses and even resorting to violent acts.
They condemned the Meghalaya govt. for supporting the miscreants from the state to West Karbi Anglong, defying and disregarding the inter-state boundary. West Karbi Anglong has an area of 885 Sq. Km in the inter-state boundary, and Block 1, Block 2, Khanduli and other adjacent areas comes under it.
“Before bringing the final solution to the inter-state boundary issue, the Assam govt. and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council must work on establishing peace in the border region,” said KSA.
“There is no land under KAAC’s territory to be given to Meghalaya. Assam and Meghalaya must respect the boundary line mentioned in the 1951 demarcation. Assam had already lost several portions of its land in the bordering areas with Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, but we will not let it happen in West Karbi Anglong,” KSA further said.
KSA Diphu Regional Committee president Litonsing Timung also said that the KAAC and Assam Govt. must take strong action to bring the final solution to the inter-state border issues. The demonstration was joined by KSA Diphu Regional Committee vice president Manik Rongpi, Finance Secretary Waisong Bey and many other members.
