DONGKAMUKAM, Aug 16: On the occasion of Independence Day 2025, the West Karbi Anglong’s Indian National Congress (INC) activists held a mass ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in Dongkamukam. The procession started from the district head office and moved towards Kheroni Road, with participants carrying placards and chanting slogans before returning via Hospital Road.
The event saw the participation of prominent leaders, including Augustine Enghee, President of INC, WKADC, Ex-EMs Sing Teron and Ashok Teron, Mandal leaders, and supporters.
During a press conference, Ashok Teron, former Executive Member of KAAC, criticized the BJP for allegedly coming to power through illegal means. He accused the current state and council governments of failing in their duties, particularly in protecting the region’s borders. Teron claimed that instead of safeguarding the area, the government is selling land to multinational companies, which could lead to future generations of Karbis and other tribals becoming landless.
Teron emphasized the need to provide land documents or pattas to the indigenous community that has been residing in the Hills Districts since 1947.
